Back cushions and cushions for garden furniture
Seat cushions: Pretty comfortable
The essence is in the detail, as the saying goes. And that’s exactly how it is. We often focus on the big things and ignore the fact that it’s always the little things that make something special. This is also the case with our outdoor furniture: elegant loungers, sturdy tables, shapely chairs – all well and good. But what makes our outdoor area really cozy are the different textiles and accessories. We present our favorites to you and tell you what you should pay attention to when buying, storing, and – very importantly – caring for them.
Outdoor textiles: the best materials
As much as we value high-quality natural materials with pleasant and often luxurious textures inside, we should reprogram ourselves for the outdoors. The motto here is the more “artificial”, the better. Which doesn’t mean that cushions and the like lose their quality – on the contrary! Innovative materials made of plastic ensure a particularly long service life in the outdoor area without losing the focus on comfort. That is why we are often amazed that cushions for loungers or upholstery for garden chairs can also be found in the high-priced segment.
That shouldn’t scare us, though, because grannies’ wisdom like “buy cheap, buy twice” is rarely as effective as it is here. We all know that where we like to spend good money inside, people are often stingy outside.
That’s why we strongly recommend investing in quality outdoors as well. Materials such as acrylic, PET, and polypropylene, but also outdoor leather or artificial leather with a foam filling with an open cell structure (important so that water can escape unhindered) impress with their stability and robustness. Natural materials such as jute, cotton, or sisal, on the other hand, look pretty, but soak up water during unexpected summer showers and often lose their original shape if they dry very slowly or even tend to mold.
colors for outside
There are also a few things to consider when choosing a color. As beautiful as the patterns and intense colors are, it’s easy to get tired of them. If they are not UV-resistant, there is also a risk that the colors will fade.
That is why we are happy to recommend neutral, light and reserved colors that survive any weather and any (color) trend. On the other hand, we do not recommend dark colors that heat up in the sun and tend to get uncomfortably hot.
Proper care for outdoor textiles
Robust materials are easy to care for, and that’s the good news. However, you should not leave them completely alone. With the following tips, you can keep your cushions and pillows as long as possible:
- Most textiles made of synthetic fibers can be washed in the washing machine at 30 degrees, but should not be put in the dryer – please pay attention to the label.
- If the cover can be removed from the ticking, you are welcome to cover it again while it is still damp. So it can still be shaped and adapts itself optimally to the ticking again.
- A little touch-up can often be achieved with a mild detergent and a soft brush. Simply apply, brush off and then rinse off with water.
- For bird droppings or dirt caused by pollen and dust, a spray solution made from 1 teaspoon of washing-up liquid and 250 ml of water has proven its worth. Soak the stain well and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth (!).
- For yellowish residues on light-colored fabrics: Lemon juice and sunlight will help. If you’re impatient, dab a little bleach on the stain with a cotton swab. But please test this first in a not-so-prominent place.
With these cleaning tips, you and your outdoor textiles should be optimally equipped! In the event of a persistent phase of bad weather, however, the following also applies to the most robust materials: Off to the bin!
In wind and weather: the right storage
Boxes, chests, baskets – you name it… The main thing is protection from wind, weather and other natural sensitivities. Manufacturers such as Feidao offer multifaceted and shapely storage options for lounger pads, upholstery and cushions made of weather-resistant HPL material or wood, which not only blend in well with the outdoor area but are often also used as storage be able. However, they fulfill their main purpose by optimally protecting your outdoor textiles, especially in winter. Nothing can go wrong now!
